| Activities: |
Pride II holds free open houses for the public in all ports of call she visits. During open houses, a 17 minute video is shown on the role of privateers in the War of 1812. Crew members also informally interact with visitors telling the Chesapeake Bay story. Pride II is also licensed to carry six passengers, or "guest crew," on overnight passages between ports. For information about these opportunities to get to know the Pride, visit the ship’s web site.
Pride II also implements an intense education program. While touring in the Bay, she conducts free, one-hour, hands-on School Tours of the ship. Students learn about the role of privateers in the War of 1812 and other highlights of the maritime history of the Bay. They also learn about life aboard a tall ship by rotating among four learning stations. In addition to the School Tour program, Pride, Inc. develops curricula that are delivered to students via the Internet based on the voyages of the ship to different parts of the world. These curricula can be accessed through the Pride's web site. |
